Organizations Making a Difference in Our Community

daybreak - a project of depaul usa

Daybreak is a day/resource center that provides services to individuals facing the immediate crisis of homelessness. In Little Rock, Arkansas and Macon, Georgia, Depaul USA provides a welcoming place where individuals can get a hot meal, relax, wash up and do laundry, and speak with a social worker and the services they need to move toward lives of stability and dignity.

Daybreak works on removing obstacles in a person's life by establishing a relationship with them, giving them a place to rest, offering services to feel renewed, and connecting them to other community resources in order to help them move from being homeless to a life with increased stability which is a long road, but with the help of a supportive system it can be transforming!

This organization is near and dear to the hearts of members at temple Beth Israel. There are many of us who regularly volunteer during the week, as well as help fundraise and participate in the the greater Macon Sleep out. Since 1971, Macon Outreach has worked cooperatively with churches, area services, and volunteers to address the needs of those living in poverty in Central Georgia. Temple Beth Israel and Congregation Sha'arey Israel have teamed up to serve lunch every third Thursday of the Month. We have a wonderful crew of people who are dedicated to this program, but we're always looking for new faces. Feel free to sign up here, letting us know to add you to our monthly mailing volunteer list. If you'de like to learn more about Macon Outreach, feel free to give them a call at 478-743-8026 or simply click the "Learn More" button. We look forward to seeing you there!

LOAVES AND FISHES

Each year around the High Holidays, we are provided the opportunity to help those in need in Macon. We ask that any attendee's of HHD services please fill one or more grocery bags with non-perishable items. The proceeds of which all go to a local organization called "Loaves and Fishes." Loaves and Fishes is a faith-based, nonprofit organization, originally started in 1967 in the basement of Tattnal square Presbyterian church. in addition to providing personal hygiene kits, clothing, and emergency prescription assistance, they serve almost 250 families and individuals every month. That's approximately 80,000 meals!

In the past we have donated over 200 pounds of goods! If you would like to get a head start and donate now, please click on the "Donate Now," button or simply learn more about the tremendous work of this organization.
